Paraguay's Forestry Export Starts 2025 with US$5 Million

Over recent years (2021-2025), the main forestry products exported by Paraguay were charcoal, plywood, and sawn wood. In the first case, an average volume of 8,062 tons was shipped during these years, with an average annual value of US$2.8 million.

Meanwhile, plywood exports reached an average annual volume of 995 tons, worth US$850,001 per year. For sawn wood, the average export volume was 776 tons annually, valued at an average of US$488,054.

According to the monthly report from Infona, in January 2025, forestry product exports reached US$5 million and approximately 11,670 tons.

Charcoal accounted for 71% of shipments but saw a slight decline compared to the same month the previous year. In the first month of 2025, 8,287 tons of this product were sent to international markets, down from 8,607 tons in 2024. In terms of foreign currency earnings, this segment generated around US$2.8 million, as per the report.

Plywood (10%) recorded an increase in shipments, rising from US$647,370 to US$895,875 in January this year, a growth of 27.7%. Similarly, in January 2025, sawn wood (9%) was exported for a total of US$377,824, corresponding to 1,070 tons.

DESTINATIONS

The main destination for Paraguay's forestry exports was the United States, which received products worth US$1.3 million and 2,218 tons in January of this year.

Regarding the three most exported products, Brazil led as the primary destination for charcoal and its derivatives in terms of shipped tons (1,865), generating foreign currency earnings of US$225,252.

The United States ranked second with 1,834 tons worth US$718,265, while the United Kingdom imported 946 tons for US$500,807.

For plywood, Italy led with 308 tons and foreign currency earnings of US$191,637, followed by Chile and Portugal with exports worth US$153,935 and US$127,699, respectively.

Israel, meanwhile, was the top buyer of local sawn wood (US$138,162) in January, while Taiwan, Uruguay, and South Korea also imported this product from Paraguay, totaling US$153,749.
