Acoforag Demands Implementation of "Intrusive" Measures After Attack in Arauco
The manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors, René Muñoz, stated that the implementation of "intrusive" measures in procedures is essential, and for this, the Government must support the actions of the Armed Forces in the regions under the State of Exception, following a new attack in the commune of Arauco.
In this context, the mayor of Arauco described the arson attack that damaged three containers and two heavy machines on a property in that commune as a "terrorist" act.
The municipal leader, Mauricio Alarcón, pointed out that although these incidents do not occur frequently in the northern sector of the province, they still concern the local community and create a "notable public alarm."
He also labeled the incident as a "terrorist" act, regretting that the Chilean State responds in a "reactive" manner to such events.
Additionally, he commented on the judicial work being carried out, noting that while the Prosecutor's Office investigates the crimes, the justice system—he said—is "guarantorist," as the accused have defense, but the victims do not.
In the Independent Democratic Union, the deputy for the area, Flor Weisse, called it "unacceptable" that a new attack has occurred in the province of Arauco despite the State of Exception being in place.
WAM and Political Prisoners
For this reason, the regional councilor, Cristián Medina, is calling for increased police and military presence in the rural areas where the attacks are taking place.
He also added that there are "no Mapuche political prisoners" in the area. This follows the message left by the Weichán Auka Mapu through a banner at the property where the attack occurred.
Along the same lines, the presidential delegate for the province of Arauco, Humberto Toro, reiterated that there are "no Mapuche political prisoners" in the area, adding that the actions of the radical group do not align with the dialogue the Government is conducting with the communities.
Personnel from Carabineros and the Navy arrived at the Tropén property of Forestal Arauco, located on Route P-40 in the same commune, and carried out the procedure, with no arrests reported so far.
