PDI arrests 3 people caught stealing wood from trees in Purranque
Detectives from the Osorno Criminal Investigation Brigade, as part of an investigative focus linked to timber theft, arrested three adult men this Monday for the extraction of Alerce wood in the commune of Purranque, specifically in the coastal mountain range.
According to the investigation, the accused were actively engaged in cutting, transporting, and stockpiling this native tree species.
At the time of their arrest, the individuals lacked documentation or a management plan to justify the logging of Alerce. Authorities seized over 150 wooden shingles, 28 Alerce planks, a chainsaw, and the truck used to commit the crime.
It is worth noting that two of the detainees have prior records for theft, while another has a history of drug trafficking. They will appear for a detention hearing in Río Negro this Tuesday.
