The Investigative Police confirmed the arrest of 6 people in the commune of Río Negro, including 4 Chileans and two undocumented foreigners, for cutting, transporting, and storing native wood.

In this way, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Brigade of Osorno confirmed the arrests as part of an investigative focus on wood theft in the province of Osorno.

This was confirmed by Commissioner Mario Bornes of the Criminal Investigation Brigade, who explained that the suspects were caught without any management plan justifying the logging of native forest, causing environmental impact and damage to the area.

"Specifically, the investigative team or wood theft unit, following an investigation into the crime of tree cutting and destruction initiated by the local prosecutor's office in Río Negro, managed to arrest six male individuals, all adults—four Chileans and two undocumented Venezuelans—who were caught in the act carrying out logging and cutting of native trees in a mountainous area of the Río Negro commune. Upon being detained, none could provide the necessary permits or documentation authorizing them to conduct forestry work, nor justify their presence at the site," he detailed.

The PDI reported the seizure of two vehicles used in the commission of the crime—a truck, a chainsaw, and a cart, among other items—with an estimated value of around $65 million.

As for the detainees, all were placed at the disposal of the judiciary.
