Homemade Weapons Found in Forest Property in San Juan de la Costa
A bag containing handmade weapons was found in a forest property in San Juan de la Costa, in the Los Lagos region. The discovery occurred while workers were carrying out tasks on the land, which had been subject to a squatting incident and subsequent eviction in January of this year.
The Chief Prosecutor of Osorno, María Angélica de Miguel, reported on the situation: "We were informed that during forestry work, they found a type of bag containing a series of homemade weapons. In that context, we went to the site along with the Investigative Police (PDI), the BIPE, and the Criminalistics Laboratory to conduct forensic examinations and investigative procedures."
The property in question had been illegally occupied for an extended period and was recovered after an eviction operation earlier this year. Now, authorities are working to determine the origin of the weapons and whether they are linked to the previous occupation. "It should be noted that this property had been squatted for a long time and, following a raid and eviction in January, was handed over to the forestry company, which is currently carrying out work on the site," explained Prosecutor De Miguel.
The discovery of weapons in recovered properties raises concerns among authorities, as it could indicate the presence of organized groups with access to illicit weaponry.
