Aerial images show a particularly striking and concerning panorama. It is the advance of fires in different areas. A forest fire that has been affecting the commune of Cañete since the early hours of Wednesday. A complex scenario that has repeated throughout the current season.

On this matter, René Muñoz, manager of Acoforag, stated that a bill is currently being debated in Congress. "But this initiative is more focused on punishing and fining small landowners than on finding and penalizing the criminals who are burning the forests in our territory," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Casagrande, president of Corma Biobío-Ñuble, stated, "I would say we are seeing the worst face of the fires because the occurrence of multiple simultaneous outbreaks is converging. We are dealing with around 8 fires that started at the same time."

He added that the fires span several meters, igniting new hotspots at certain intervals. He mentioned that it is a sloped area, which facilitates the spread of the fire, and the flames begin to merge.

In the Lanalhue sector of Cañete, the fire has already consumed over 100 hectares. Regarding this, Humberto Toro, the presidential delegate of Arauco Province, stated, "We have 22% fewer fires compared to the same date last year. However, we do have an increase in hectares burned compared to last year. Fewer fires but, unfortunately, more hectares consumed."

The disaster unfolds as we are still in the critical stage of forest fires due to temperature, humidity, and wind factors. Ground and aerial resources are working to combat the flames. A concerning scenario marked by intentionality and simultaneity, which has characterized a series of fires during this season in the Biobío Region.
