Delegate of La Araucanía on Authorization of Agricultural Burns: "The Facts Will Tell Whether the Decision Was Right or Not"
The presidential regional delegate of La Araucanía, Eduardo Abdala, addressed the Government's decision to authorize agricultural burns in the region on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd.
The measure has been questioned due to the forecasted weather conditions for the area during that period, which could have influenced the spread of the wildfires affecting the region.
Regarding the decision to authorize the burns, Abdala stated, "What falls to the authorities is to make decisions, and we made this decision. And the facts will tell whether it was the right one or not."
"I just want to say that the decision was made with the director of Senapred sitting beside me, and with that, I stand by it," he added.
Last Thursday, March 20, through a resolution, Conaf detailed that they would allow "from Friday, March 21, 2025, until Saturday, March 22, 2025, the use of fire in the form of controlled burns exclusively for the elimination of dead vegetation (residues) produced during the agricultural harvest period."
The measure included the communes of Victoria, Los Sauces, Traiguén, Freire, Pitrufquén, Temuco, Padre las Casas, Cunco, Gorbea, and Vilcún.
