Forestry Contractors Demand Real Action from the State Following New Armed Attack in La Araucanía
The Association of Forestry Contractors (ACOFORAG) strongly condemns yesterday's attack on workers at the Jauja property in the commune of Collipulli, La Araucanía Region, where armed terrorists threatened them, creating yet another day of terror in the area.
This incident adds to the long list of attacks that, for over 12 years, have affected those working in the forestry sector, endangering their lives and their constitutional right to work under safe conditions.
We are facing a situation of uncontrolled rural violence, where the State, despite having legal tools such as the State of Exception in effect since April 2022, has failed to guarantee the safety of those who daily contribute to the productive development of this region and the country. The passivity of authorities and the complicit silence of the political class have allowed these attacks to persist without real consequences for those responsible.
As Forestry Contractors, we ask: What more must happen for effective measures to be taken? Are worker fatalities necessary for decisive action? Is the industry expected to become unsustainable due to insecurity? We can no longer tolerate inaction or the normalization of violence in the southern regions.
