Araucanía: Productive guilds criticize the State for failed exhumation of Pablo Marchant's remains

The productive guilds of La Araucanía expressed their dissatisfaction due to the events in Lumaco involving a mega-operation carried out by a contingent of 240 officers, including Carabineros, the PDI, and the Army, who were driven out by gunfire from the Pidenco estate by an armed group, thwarting for the second time the attempt to exhume the remains of Pablo Marchant.

René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), stated that what happened at the Pidenco estate is the clearest proof that there is no Rule of Law, adding that the area has become another Temucuicui.

“It is proof of the State's inability to enforce the Rule of Law, where institutions function, and the State holds the power of force. Moreover, it is the one that enforces this power. Today, that area is controlled by terrorist groups where the State cannot enter. It’s another Temucuicui,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Patricio Santibáñez, president of the Araucanía Multiguild Association, which brings together various productive guilds, said that what happened in Lumaco demonstrates the State's inability to exercise territorial control in certain sectors of the region.

Additionally, the leader stated that it also proves there is no point in discussing lifting the State of Exception in effect in the area to prevent violent acts, as the events show that armed radical groups are still operating.

Meanwhile, lawyer José Luis Correa said they will insist on exhuming the remains of the CAM member killed in a confrontation with Carabineros in July 2021 in Carahue, so they can undergo new thanatological examinations at the Legal Medical Service.
