San Ramón School in Nacimiento Rises from the Ashes

After the natural disaster that struck the commune of Nacimiento in February 2023, San Ramón School opens its doors once again. Fully rebuilt, the school now stands as a symbol of hope and resilience for the community. Teacher Francisco Vera expressed his gratitude toward the neighborhood council and highlighted the community's commitment to caring for the new infrastructure.

The regional presidential delegate of Biobío, Eduardo Pacheco, emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in the reconstruction and strengthening of rural education.

The new school, covering an area of 150m², is built with high energy-efficiency materials and features modern, functional facilities. Guillermo Turner from CMPC highlighted the reconstruction as an act of preserving rural life and the dignity of rural education. The collaboration between Nacimiento's DAEM, the Biobío Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Education, Desafío Levantemos Chile, and other stakeholders was key in the reconstruction process, which coincided with Rural Education Week and the birth anniversary of Gabriela Mistral.

The executive director of Desafío Levantemos Chile, Ignacio Serrano, acknowledged education as a real emergency and celebrated the joint efforts between the public and private sectors. The mayor of Nacimiento, Carlos Toloza, saw the new school as a symbol of hope for future generations. San Ramón School, with a history dating back to 1966, is preparing to welcome new students and continue its educational legacy.
