La Unión: PDI Arrests Man for Timber Theft and Land Usurpation
Detectives from the Specialized Investigative Team for Timber Theft of the Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim) of the PDI Valdivia arrested a 56-year-old man accused of the crimes of timber theft and land usurpation in La Unión. The individual was improperly using a forest property to fell and remove timber.
Regarding this, Commissioner Juan Pablo Camaño of Bicrim Valdivia explained that personnel from the unit, in investigative procedures coordinated with the Local Prosecutor's Office of La Unión, managed to arrest a suspect for the crimes of land usurpation and timber theft. "The individual repeatedly engaged in felling and processing timber from both exotic and native species. Additionally, he kept the property's access roads closed with his own locks and perimeter barriers, freely entering the clandestine operations where chainsaws, animal traction, and cargo vehicles were used."
At the scene, authorities seized 26 eucalyptus trees measuring 30 meters in length, 2 logs of native timber measuring 8 meters, a 3/4-ton truck, a chainsaw, and a pair of oxen, all valued at over 8 million pesos.
