The Ponsse Harbunk is machinery designed to operate in steep slope logging. Adapted from the Ponsse Bear Harvester model, it features a ClampBunk grapple, a PONSSE H8 harvesting head, and an assist winch. Its design reduces the need to mobilize multiple machines, lowering operational costs and improving efficiency.
One machine solution
Sebastián Larenas, Country Manager of Ponsse Chile, stated that this powerful equipment incorporates a synchronized assist winch, the Synchrowinch model, installed on the engine side, enabling operations on slopes of up to 40°. On the rear bogie, an inverted grapple (ClampBunk) is installed, facilitating the accumulation and extraction of full-length stems, which are processed roadside for transport to consumption centers.
He added that, thanks to this solution, harvesting on steep slopes is possible with low fuel consumption and reduced operational costs. While other systems require 3 to 5 machines, its implementation in Brazil has reduced operational costs by 30% and CO2 emissions by 10%.
Use of software
The Harbunk incorporates advanced digital technologies, such as the Multifleet system, which enables real-time management of the entire machinery fleet, providing key data to improve efficiency. Additionally, the PONSSE Opti 5G system optimizes operation monitoring and control, ensuring better performance and competitiveness.
Training
The executive noted that to ensure safe and efficient operation, Ponsse offers comprehensive training for Harbunk operators. This program includes psychotechnical evaluations, simulators, and hands-on field training, ensuring operators are prepared for the challenges of forest harvesting.
Additionally, technical support is available with on-site services and training follow-up. With a presence in various countries, Ponsse has specialized instructors to enhance operator skills in complex operations.
Accident reduction
Larenas added that the Harbunk's advanced technology significantly enhances safety. Its control systems minimize operational risks, reducing operator exposure to hazardous situations. Improved ergonomics and all-direction visibility further reinforce operator safety.
It is worth noting that the ClampBunk can be easily uninstalled, allowing the harvester to be reused in Cut-to-Length operations. Ponsse provides functional and comprehensive solutions to address forestry challenges, improving productivity and safety in steep slope logging.
