Timbermax HDX: Innovation in Winches for Safe Operation on Steep Slopes
One of the major challenges in the forestry industry is operating on steep terrain. To address this need, the Canadian company Timbermax has launched its new series of HDX assist winches this year, which incorporate technological improvements derived from the experience of previous models and customer feedback.
Roberto Moncada, General Manager of CBI, mentioned that one of the key aspects of the HDX series is its advanced assist technology, which includes, among other features, three cameras for remote monitoring, a load cell for real-time tension measurement, an automatic lubrication system, and a tension regulation function based on the direction of movement. "Additionally, it features a real-time cable diameter measurement system, assisted machine stability testing, and a minimally invasive installation on the carrier machine," he highlighted.
Key Information
He added that one of the most notable advancements is the iWinch control system, which records and transmits key information for safe operation by adjusting parameters according to terrain conditions. Thanks to telemetry, users can receive real-time data (winch and assisted machine location, historical cable tension records, over-tension events, fuel consumption, carrier machine parameters, etc.). Furthermore, the system automatically detects the direction of movement and adjusts the cable tension as defined at the start of the workday, optimizing operation and reducing risks.
Regarding design and versatility, Moncada stated that the Timbermax HDX winches are available in capacities ranging from 8 to 24 tons, allowing them to adapt to different sizes of assisted machines. As a standalone accessory, it can be installed on both new and used equipment, facilitating integration into various operations. Additionally, if the winch is not in use, it can be replaced with another accessory, increasing the base machine's functionality.
Training
To ensure efficient and safe use, Timbermax provides comprehensive training for operators, including theoretical and hands-on field training.
"It's important to consider that the technology of the Timbermax HDX winches contributes to reducing accidents in steep-slope operations. By operating 100% automatically, it allows the operator to focus on the assisted machine's operation, lowering the risk of incidents and optimizing workplace safety," concluded the executive.
