Cordero arrived in Bío Bío after attack in Santa Bárbara: met with Chinese ambassador and business leaders
On Thursday, the Minister of Public Security, Luis Cordero, arrived in Los Ángeles accompanied by high-ranking officers from Carabineros, the Army, and the Investigative Police (PDI).
During his visit, following the major attack recorded in Santa Bárbara, he met with representatives from the company China International Water & Electric (CWE), the owner of the Rucualhue Hydroelectric Plant project, along with the Chinese Ambassador to Chile, Niu Qingbao, and the Chilean Ambassador to China, Pablo Arriarán.
The meeting lasted approximately four hours, concluding with a meeting with the mayor of Santa Juana, Cristian Oses Abuter.
The main objective of the meeting was to assess the security situation following the attack, in which around 50 vehicles, mostly trucks, were burned.
Not only were security aspects evaluated based on the information available so far, but also in accordance with the court's ruling: 24-hour security for the affected property.
Additional measures were also discussed, though these were not disclosed to the press.
However, there is also concern for the business owners who provided services to the Rucalhue Plant, Minister Cordero stated.
In this regard, the authority mentioned that they could receive assistance through the Fund for Support to Victims of Rural Violence. Thus, he reiterated that the Executive Branch expects the project to proceed in compliance with the law.
"We have conveyed to the ambassador and the company's managers the Chilean State's concern over the events that occurred and the measures we have taken," Cordero affirmed.
"And, of course, the government's reaction, starting with the President, not only condemning the act due to its impact as a terrorist act but also, above all, sending a message of reassurance to investors that the Chilean State must take responsibility for these situations, as it is the only way to instill confidence in investment," he added.
With this, Cordero stated that this time it was a Chinese investment affected, "but tomorrow it could be any other."
Minister to Participate in Commemoration of Carabineros Anniversary
Regarding the mayor of Santa Bárbara, the Minister of Public Security offered the possibility of visiting the municipality soon on a date yet to be determined.
This weekend, Cordero will be in the area again, participating in several activities, including the Carabineros anniversary.
This date is particularly significant, as April 27 marks one year since the murder of three Carabineros officers in Cañete.
