Carabineros Bolster Security in La Araucanía with New Armored Trucks
The La Araucanía Region, known for its security challenges, took a significant step in strengthening its police operations with the addition of 15 armored Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 trucks.
These vehicles, delivered to the Araucanía Zone Public Order Control (Zacop), are equipped with NIJ Level III armor, providing full 360° protection against high-caliber automatic weapon ammunition, including 7.62x51 mm rounds.
Each truck features a powerful 5.3-liter V8 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and All-Wheel Drive, ensuring quick and effective response on difficult terrain. Additionally, the reinforced special suspension and fire suppression system enhance the vehicles' safety and operational capacity.
The additional armor against explosives, such as DM-51 hand grenades, and the ability to transport four officers make these trucks an essential tool for Carabineros' operations in the region.
The decision to reinforce the fleet with these armored units responds to the need for greater protection for police personnel in an area marked by tension and clashes. These vehicles meet the protection standards of NIJ 0108.01, capable of withstanding ammunition of various calibers, including those used by AK-47 rifles.
This advancement in La Araucanía's public security strategy is a clear indication of the government and law enforcement's commitment to protecting both citizens and the personnel tasked with maintaining peace in the region. The investment in high-tech and protective equipment is a step forward in seeking solutions to the conflicts that have characterized this part of the country.
With the arrival of these armored trucks, Carabineros de Chile expects to improve response times and operational effectiveness in security missions, making a significant difference in the fight against violence and crime in La Araucanía.
