Acoforag: "Terrorist activity persists in La Araucanía"
"Terrorist activity persists in La Araucanía," lamented the manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), René Muñoz, after at least five machines—belonging to a subcontracting company—were burned this Tuesday in an arson attack recorded in the Peu Peu sector, in the commune of Lautaro (Cautín Province, La Araucanía Region).
He added that "during this 2025, 70% of the seven attacks we have had this year have occurred in La Araucanía. Something is happening: despite the state of emergency, there are no results, and terrorism is advancing."
Verónica López Videla, acting regional ministerial secretary (seremi) of Public Security in La Araucanía, stated that the attack "is an extremely serious incident," and added that "as the Executive, a criminal complaint has already been filed. Regarding the question of an anti-terrorism complaint, we first need to gather all the background information. There is an investigation being carried out by OS-9 and Labocar of Carabineros, who are conducting the forensic examinations, so the penal unit of the Ministry of Public Security can determine whether this legal framework applies or not."
The attack occurs nine days after the destruction of around fifty trucks at the under-construction Rucalhue hydroelectric plant, located on the border of the communes of Santa Bárbara and Quilaco (Biobío Region), and one day before the Presidential Commission for Peace and Understanding—which seeks to propose a definitive solution to the conflict in the Southern Macrozone through the restitution of ancestral Mapuche lands—delivers its final report.
