“What do we do now?” That was how Luis Barrientos, owner of the company affected by an attack from an armed group that burned six machines this Tuesday at a forestry operation in Fundo Lorena, Lautaro, La Araucanía region, lamented the situation.

Eight heavily armed individuals, some wearing camouflage clothing, arrived after 7:00 AM at the estate located in the PEU-PEU sector, on the route connecting the commune of Lautaro with Vilcún.

At that location, after threatening the machine operators and forcing them to disembark, they set fire to four trucks, a backhoe, and a pickup truck.

Luis Barrientos, owner of the company providing services to the forestry operation, spoke at the scene, stating that this was the second time they had suffered an attack of this nature.

The property where the attack took place belongs to the Herdener family and is located in the area known as Brasil, where Forestal Bosques Cautín has been carrying out various forestry operations for several months with the support of contractor companies.

Lautaro prosecutor Enrique Vásquez, while clarifying that the crimes under investigation include arson, illegal possession and carrying of firearms, and unjustified shootings, provided details on how this armed group operated.

Two units from the Lautaro Fire Department arrived at the scene of the arson attack and, after several minutes, managed to control the fire, preventing its spread.

The Public Ministry requested the presence of personnel from the Carabineros Criminalistics Laboratory (Labocar) at the scene, and the investigation to identify those responsible for this incident was assigned to officers from the OS-9 unit of the same institution.
