Arson attack in Contulmo left three buildings burned down
The P60R route, which connects the towns of Cañete and Contulmo in the Biobío Region, was the scene of a violent incident that resulted in the destruction of three buildings.
According to preliminary reports, the attack was concentrated in an area known as El Roble, where flames consumed two cabins and a shed.
At the scene of the incident, authorities found a banner belonging to the Lafkenche Mapuche Resistance, a group that has expressed opposition to the presence of the Navy in the ancestral Mapuche territory, known as Labkenmapu.
The message on the banner was clear: "Navy out of Labkenmapu, freedom for all PPM (Mapuche political prisoners)."
The presidential delegate of Arauco, Humberto Toro, stated that the affected cabins had been unoccupied for a considerable time. Additionally, he linked the attack to the anniversary of the RML and mentioned recent trials involving group members, suggesting these events may have triggered the action.
The judicial context Toro referred to includes the trial against Esteban Carrera, accused of the murder of community member Eleodoro Raimán Coñuel, and the recent legal proceedings against Claudia Nahuelan, a member of the RML, who faced an adverse verdict.
