Conaf Begins Authorized Agricultural Burns in La Araucanía
Conaf has launched the schedule of authorized agricultural burns in the La Araucanía Region, a measure demanded by farmers to begin sowing their lands and producing.
The measure took effect from this Saturday until this Sunday in four communes of the area: Lautaro, Perquenco, Ercilla, and Victoria, where farmers reported delays in its implementation and warned of potential economic losses.
Despite this, the regional director of Conaf, Teresa Huentequeo, emphasized that they are coordinating burn operations thanks to favorable weather conditions.
"We supervise and monitor weather conditions, so we have the authority to open burn windows or adjust the schedule based on the region's meteorology," said the official.
Meanwhile, Camilo Guzmán, president of the United Farmers Association, called on "Conaf and the technical teams deployed in the field to enforce regulations properly."
"There are people who lack permits or fail to meet the requirements for authorized burns. These have always been carried out successfully with the respective agencies; in fact, less than 1% end up causing a fire," he stated.
