UdeC Celebrates Forestry Engineer Day with Delivery of 8,000 Native Trees on Initiative's 14th Anniversary
On the occasion of Forestry Engineer Day, the Faculty of Forest Sciences at the University of Concepción delivered over 8,000 native tree plants to residents of Gran Concepción. This traditional initiative, which began in 2011, aims to promote urban forestry and strengthen the bond between the community and the university around environmental stewardship.
During the event, 20 native species—such as quillay, peumo, canelo, coihue, roble, araucaria, and arrayán—were distributed, valued for their contributions to soil regeneration, carbon capture, and their ability to enrich urban biodiversity. "May these trees grow as strong as our commitment to the environment," stated Dean Dr. Eugenio Sanfuentes Von Stowasser.
Since its modest start with just 300 plants in 2011, this initiative has grown steadily, becoming one of the most visible efforts in environmental education and urban reforestation in the Biobío region.
