In a joint operation, officials from the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) and the OS5 Section of Carabineros uncovered unauthorized logging of native forest in the town of Quilpué. The inspection, which took place in the irregular settlements of Villa Olímpica, revealed the destruction of approximately 1.5 hectares of valuable xerophytic vegetation and ecosystem.

The inspectors acted immediately, reporting the alleged perpetrators to the local police court.

This discovery underscores the importance of surveillance and compliance with forestry legislation, especially in areas prone to illegal occupation and the resulting environmental damage.

In addition to legal action, Conaf has intensified preventive fire measures in the region. Restrictions on the use of fire for disposing of household, agricultural, and forestry waste have been reinforced.

Officials also urged the public to exercise extreme caution when using tools that generate sparks, such as angle grinders and welding equipment, and warned about the dangers of faulty electrical installations.

The collaboration between Conaf and Carabineros is a crucial component in the fight against illegal deforestation and wildfire prevention. This incident highlights the need for greater awareness and responsibility from the community to protect Chile's natural resources and biodiversity.
