Association of Forestry Contractors Responds to Initial Conclusions of the Commission for Peace and Understanding
The Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag) publicly states its position regarding the submission of the final report by the Commission for Peace and Understanding, after two years of operation.
While we acknowledge the effort made to conduct a land survey and advance institutional dialogue, we regret that the document did not achieve unanimous approval among its members, ultimately passing with 7 votes in favor and 1 against. This reflects a lack of consensus that weakens the strength and legitimacy of its conclusions.
Even more concerning is that the report does not include a clear condemnation or specific measures to end terrorism and rural violence, which for years have severely affected the southern macrozone of Chile. Acoforag believes there can be no true peace or understanding without justice, security, and acknowledgment of the pain endured by thousands of victims still awaiting answers from the State.
Forestry contractors are among the primary victims of the long-standing conflict in the southern region of the country. We believe that for peace and understanding to prevail, solutions must include everyone, not just a select group.
We will await a detailed review of the report's content, which we will analyze responsibly. As a trade association, we reiterate our willingness to engage in dialogue but demand that any path toward peace include the upholding of the rule of law and minimum guarantees to work and live without fear in the southern macrozone.
