Carabineros from the Paillaco Sub-station arrested two individuals for the crime of illegal logging and timber theft during an operation recorded on the afternoon of Sunday, May 4, at the Chamil No. 4 property, Los Ulmos sector, in the said commune.

The operation began around 6:20 PM, following a call to emergency number 133 that alerted about the presence of individuals stealing wood from a forested area.

At the scene, police personnel spoke with the forestry supervisor, who reported that, through a drone inspection, two pickup trucks and several people were detected cutting and chopping eucalyptus trees.

With the complainant's authorization, Carabineros entered the property, conducting investigative identity checks on citizens S.R.R.D. and C.I.C.V., who admitted to loading firewood. Both were arrested on-site, while the drivers of the vehicles fled upon noticing the police presence.

Police confirmed the felling of 20 eucalyptus trees and the presence of approximately four meters of already cut wood loaded onto the pickup trucks.

The operation resulted in the seizure of two chainsaws: one Stihl brand, model MS 250, and another with no visible branding, as well as two undocumented pickup trucks. Additionally, four cubic meters of eucalyptus wood, valued at $3,000,000, were recovered.
