New Attack in La Araucanía Leaves 15 Workers Without Jobs: We Demand the Presence of the Minister of Public Security, Luis Cordero
Acoforag strongly rejects and condemns the eighth attack of the year 2025 and the sixth in the La Araucanía Region, this time occurring in the Napañir sector, Los Sauces commune, once again affecting a forestry contractor.
The attack, targeting a CMPC contractor, resulted in five pickup trucks and at least three forestry machines destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the human impact is profound: 15 workers were left unemployed.
From Acoforag, we express our deep frustration over the ongoing violence in the area, which persists despite the State of Exception being in place for over three years. There is no progress in investigations, legal complaints yield no results, and terrorism remains uncontrolled due to a lack of decisive action, will, and force from the State.
As an association, we expect the Minister of Public Security, Luis Cordero, to visit the area, speak with those affected, and propose concrete measures to confront terrorism.
Today's events confirm what we have consistently stated: as long as there is no political will to directly address the issue of insecurity and terrorist violence, we will remain trapped in this spiral of destruction.
That is why we express our disappointment with the statements made by the Commission for Peace and Understanding, whose members, in their final report, did not condemn terrorism nor seriously address the extreme violence faced daily by workers, entrepreneurs, and their families in the southern macrozone. It was a symbolic gesture, incapable of confronting reality with firm proposals.
We demand the Government take responsibility and urgently restore the rule of law in the affected territories. The residents of the southern macrozone need to live in peace and work safely.
