Three lawsuits remain active due to wildfire season in the Los Lagos region
Three judicial lawsuits remain active due to the wildfire season in the Los Lagos region, while the PDI (Investigative Police) is conducting 3 investigations for such incidents in the provinces of Osorno and Chiloé.
A seasonal report showed, for example, that despite having a low number of incidents, the province of Osorno was the area most affected by wildfires, with over 155 hectares impacted in the last season.
The Regional Presidential Delegate of Los Lagos, Paulina Muñoz, while reporting an 88% decrease in the affected area in the region—with 364 hectares burned, far below the 3,032 hectares of the previous season—also addressed the ongoing investigations.
Additionally, the authority explained that control measures have improved following the injection of 5 billion pesos to enhance wildfire response efforts.
According to the wildfire summary provided by CONAF, the province of Osorno reported 35 fires and 155 hectares affected; the province of Llanquihue recorded 121 fires and 128 hectares affected; Chiloé province had 137 fires and 57 hectares affected; and finally, Palena province registered 11 fires and 22 hectares affected.
