"They Shot at Us": Speaks One of the Drivers Victim of Attack in Ercilla
One of the drivers of the trucks attacked by hooded individuals early this morning in Ercilla recounted how this new act of violence unfolded in the La Araucanía region.
In a conversation with Radio Bío Bío, Alberto Dinamarca stated that around 3 a.m., while they were sleeping inside their trucks, hooded individuals "came to shatter our windows and throw fire devices inside."
"My colleague and I didn’t know whether to get out or not because the truck was burning, but there were also armed people waiting for us to step out," he continued in his account.
Despite the fear, both got out of the truck, at which point the hooded individuals "shot at us, but thank God nothing hit us," Dinamarca specified, adding that those ballistic impacts hit other trucks at the scene.
Along with this, he revealed that the armed group struck one of his colleagues on the back with an iron bar and that he suffered minor burns on one of his legs while trying to put out the fire in the truck's cabin.
When asked if they feared for their lives, the driver replied, "Yes, obviously. I didn’t know whether to get out or stay inside because if I got out, they would shoot me, and if I stayed, the truck would burn with me inside."
The truck driver, who was heading to Temuco with a load of coils, received care from SAMU for his minor injuries.
