The executive director of the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf), now known as the National Forestry Service (Sernafor), Aída Baldini, has submitted her resignation from the position, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture. In a statement, the institution expressed its gratitude toward Baldini for her "outstanding management and valuable work," highlighting her role in processing the law that gave life to the new Sernafor. However, her departure occurs in a context of internal tensions, with accusations of workplace mistreatment and harassment that led to a national strike by employees demanding her resignation.

Rodrigo Illesca Rojas, who until now served as deputy director of Conaf, will assume the role of executive director on an interim basis. Illesca, a forestry engineer with an extensive career in the institution since 1999, takes leadership at a critical moment, with hopes of restoring harmony and proper functioning within the entity.

Aída Baldini's resignation comes at a delicate time for Conaf, with recent strikes and complaints that have called into question the organization's internal management. Despite the circumstances, the Ministry of Agriculture has emphasized her contribution, particularly in the legislative process that culminated in the creation of Sernafor, a milestone in the country's forestry history.

Accusations of workplace mistreatment and harassment at Conaf triggered a nationwide strike that lasted 10 days. Employees of the institution expressed their discontent and demanded leadership changes, which ultimately resulted in Baldini's resignation.

New Leadership

Rodrigo Illesca Rojas, with over two decades of experience at Conaf, faces the challenge of leading the institution during a period of transition and recovery. His technical expertise and career within the organization are seen as valuable assets to overcome the current crisis and move toward more harmonious and efficient management.
