Chapel completely destroyed by fire after arson attack in Curacautín
A chapel was destroyed by fire following an attack recorded in Curacautín, La Araucanía region.
According to Radio Bío Bío, the incident occurred around midnight on Wednesday at the temple located at kilometer 44 of Route CH-181, in the San Arturo area.
In response, Carabineros personnel were alerted by a call reporting gunshots heard at the mentioned location and that unknown individuals had set fire to a chapel.
"Police personnel were alerted via emergency line 133 by a witness from the area, stating that there had been gunshots and that the chapel was burning," said Major Patricio Ávalos of the Fifth Police Station of Curacautín.
Ávalos added, "Carabineros responded immediately, and Firefighters also arrived to verify the situation," while the volunteers were protected by police personnel, with support from the Army, to work on controlling the fire.
Additionally, it was reported that those responsible for the attack that destroyed the chapel in Curacautín left spike strips along the International Route CH-181, between the towns of Victoria and Curacautín, as they fled.
By order of the on-duty prosecutor, the presence of the Forensic Laboratory and the OS9 of the uniformed police was instructed.
The latter was to conduct the respective forensic examinations at the scene.
