This Thursday, the Investigative Police (PDI) arrested Juan Pichún in Traiguén, a lonco (leader) of the Mapuche community Temulemu and one of the spokespersons for the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM).

According to Radio Bío Bío, the Mapuche leader is allegedly linked to two arson attacks that occurred in 2021 in La Araucanía. In fact, one of them targeted a property belonging to the family of Jorge Rathgeb (RN).

The arrest specifically took place in the rural area of the Traiguén commune. It is worth noting that Pichún became a spokesperson for CAM following the arrest of Héctor Llaitul.

The detectives acted under an arrest warrant issued by the Purén Guarantee Court. This is part of an investigation into the crimes of arson, assault on an on-duty police officer, and violent usurpation, which resulted in two arson attacks at two locations in the region.

The information was confirmed by the regional secretary of Public Security, Israel Campusano, on behalf of the government.

Juan Pichún was taken to a police station for the respective detention hearing and formal investigation in a case where his brother Rafael Pichún and Pelentaro Llaitul, son of Héctor Llaitul, are also under investigation.
