Arson attack in Collipulli leaves eight vehicles destroyed
A new arson attack was reported early this Wednesday on Route 182, which connects the towns of Collipulli and Angol in the province of Malleco. The incident severely affected a landfill operated by the waste treatment company Malleco, where a group of unknown individuals burned four trucks and four heavy machinery units, including backhoes and bulldozers.
According to Colonel Manuel Aravena, prefect of Malleco, the attack occurred when a group of hooded and heavily armed individuals entered the facility during the early hours. "They intimidated the night watchman with long guns, bound his hands and feet, and then proceeded to douse four trucks, two backhoes, and two bulldozers with accelerant fluid, which they subsequently set on fire," detailed the authority.
After carrying out the attack, the assailants fled in a truck belonging to the same company, and their whereabouts remain unknown as of now.
Firefighters, Carabineros (Chilean police), and Army personnel worked at the scene, managing to control the fire after intense efforts. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Under the direction of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the investigation was handed over to the Special Police Investigations Brigade (BIPE) of the PDI, which is already conducting forensic examinations to clarify the events and identify those responsible for the attack.
This new act of violence adds to a series of attacks recorded in the area in recent months, raising concerns among authorities, workers, and local communities due to the persistence of violent incidents in the southern macrozone.
