Chilean forestry companies: 100% FSC-certified for responsible forest management
At the Faculty of Forestry Sciences and Nature Conservation at the University of Chile, the talk "FSC Certification, a Key Tool for Sustainable Forestry Development and Forest Protection" was held, organized by FSC Chile. The event highlighted the key role certification plays in promoting responsible forestry practices in the country.
One of the most notable takeaways from the event was that all Chilean forestry companies currently hold FSC certification, representing over 2.3 million certified hectares under criteria that promote environmental sustainability, social commitment, and economic efficiency.
This achievement positions Chile as an international benchmark in good forestry practices and demonstrates that it is possible to balance productive development with ecosystem protection and respect for local communities.
The event featured presentations by Regina Massai, Executive Director of FSC Chile, and Macarena Medina, Manager of Standards and Brand Use, who addressed the main challenges facing the Chilean forestry sector in the face of climate change and how certification serves as a strategic tool to address them.
The event was led by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Horacio Bown, and academic Andrés Plaza, head of the Climate Adaptation and Forest Management Laboratory.
For FSC Chile, these types of gatherings are essential to spreading awareness about the value of certification and its positive impact on forest management, biodiversity conservation, and the generation of social and economic value at the local level.
Today, more than ever, FSC-certified forestry companies are leading by example with a sustainable development model that addresses global challenges while creating real opportunities for local communities.
