Three Members of Feared Mapuche National Liberation Arrested for Arson Attacks

The Regional Prosecutor's Office of Los Ríos confirmed the arrest of three members of the 'Mapuche National Liberation' group, who are being investigated for their involvement in two high-impact arson attacks that occurred in 2021 and 2022.

According to information provided by the Public Ministry, the first attack took place in July 2021. The prosecuting body also detailed that the incident occurred in the Los Tallos sector of Panguipulli, where three forestry machines, vehicles, and a trailer were burned.

During the same incident, a worker sustained serious injuries as a result of a brutal assault by the masked individuals.

Second Arson Attack by Mapuche National Liberation

Months later, in February 2022, according to the Prosecutor's Office, the detainees burned 19 forestry trucks and a warehouse in the Ciruelos sector of Mariquina. On that occasion, they acted at night, masked, and carrying firearms.

Regarding this, the Regional Prosecutor of Los Ríos, Tatiana Esquivel, emphasized that the results were achieved "after an exhaustive investigation led by the Criminal Analysis and Investigative Focus Unit of the Los Ríos Prosecutor's Office in collaboration with the Special Police Investigations Brigade (BIPE) of the regional PDI."

"This Wednesday, simultaneous raids were carried out in Mariquina, Panguipulli, and Temuco, resulting in the arrest of the perpetrators of these crimes, who will be formally charged tomorrow before the Panguipulli Guarantee Judge," concluded the authority.
