Luis Yancamán: A Life of Work, Love, and Gratitude
From Curanilahue, where he was born surrounded by guitars and accordions, Luis Yancamán has built his life through hard work, joy, and inherited values. The son of a miner who arrived at 18 to work in the northern mines, he grew up surrounded by examples of sacrifice and simplicity.
Together with his wife, Alba Luz Fontalba, with whom he started with nothing more than a bed and a few cups, he built a family based on trust and shared work. "I would give her the money, and she would save it," says Luis, grateful for his partner, whom he describes as thrifty, steadfast, and essential.
By his side was also his father-in-law, Polidoro Segundo Fontalba, whom Luis considers a second father. "At first, when I took his daughter away, he was a bit hesitant... but later, I earned his affection," he recalls. Together, they dreamed and built a home, honoring Polidoro's role as "head of the household and family."
Today, their children are proud of the example they follow. Luis, a machinery operator, deeply values his trade but cherishes his family life even more. "You connect with the machine, but the most important thing is coming home, sharing how your day went, and seeing your loved ones proud."
Luis, Alba, and Polidoro embody the strength of everyday life—a testament that with love, respect, and joy, a dignified life can be built from the simplest beginnings.
