Arson attack in La Araucanía leaves two trucks destroyed
In a serious incident that occurred in the early hours of the morning, two trucks were completely destroyed and three others were damaged following an arson attack on the route connecting Collipulli with the San Andrés area. According to preliminary reports, at least three armed individuals intercepted the vehicles, assaulted the drivers, and proceeded to set the machines on fire.
The incident, which took place around 08:00 at kilometer 6 of the R-35 route near a CMPC forestry property, has sparked a wave of reactions and condemnations from authorities and political representatives. General Patricio Yáñez, head of the Carabineros Araucanía Zone, reported the discovery of a banner at the attack site containing messages alluding to the cause of Mapuche prisoners and criticism of forestry companies.
National Renewal deputy Miguel Mellado strongly condemned the attack, recalling other violent incidents in the same area and criticizing the government's response to the security situation in the region. Mellado called for action to address what he described as terrorist acts and asserted that production in La Araucanía cannot continue unless the violence is brought under control.
In response to the attack, vehicle traffic on the affected route was halted to allow Firefighters and Carabineros to work. Meanwhile, the investigation continues, and authorities are searching for the perpetrators, who fled the scene in a pickup truck whose whereabouts remain unknown.
This incident adds to a series of violent acts that have affected the La Araucanía region in recent years, amid territorial and cultural claims by Mapuche communities and the presence of groups using violence to express their demands.
