It was at the end of July that the Association of Forest Contractors filed the petition with the Inter-American Court based in Washington, denouncing being the target of serious and systematic human rights violations.

They are awaiting the declaration of admissibility of the complaint, confident that the Court will begin an analysis of the violence in which forestry workers and their families live, with their rights to life, integrity, work, and enterprise being violated.

This reality, stated René Muñoz, the guild's president, has been ongoing for nearly 30 years but has intensified over the last 12, without the State taking measures to restore the Rule of Law in the Southern Macrozone.

Two weeks after the complaint was filed, the Association of Forest Contractors is waiting for the Inter-American Court to begin the process. The objective of the filing, explained the contractors' lawyer, Rodrigo Ruiz, is for the judicial body to determine the violation of the denounced rights and hold the Chilean State responsible for restoring peace to the sector where forestry workers operate.

Lawyer Ruiz emphasized that the filing does not seek the payment of compensations, but rather for the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to urge the State of Chile to fulfill its duty to protect a population continuously exposed to what they classify as terrorist acts.
