Luis Yancamán: The Strength of Everyday Life from Curanilahue
From Curanilahue, a land marked by guitars, accordions, and mining traditions, emerges the story of Luis Yancamán, a man who has built his life on effort, joy, and inherited values.
The son of a worker who arrived at the northern mines at the age of 18, he grew up surrounded by sacrifice and simplicity, teachings that would later shape his own path.
Together with his wife, Alba Luz Fontalba, they started practically from scratch. "We began with a bed and a few cups," he recalls. The marriage built their life on mutual trust and shared work: "I would give her the money, and she would save it," says Luis, highlighting Alba's strength and frugal nature, whom he recognizes as the fundamental pillar of their family.
In this journey, his father-in-law, Polidoro Segundo Fontalba, was also present, whom Luis considers a second father. "At first, when I took his daughter away, he was so-so... but later I earned his affection," he recalls humorously. Together they built a house, always respecting Polidoro as the "head of the household and family."
Today, Luis and Alba's children proudly value this legacy of effort and unity. Yancamán, a machinery operator, expresses gratitude for a trade that has given him stability but emphasizes that the most valuable thing is at home: "You connect with the machine, but the most important thing is to come home, share how your day was, and see your loved ones proud."
The story of Luis, Alba, and Polidoro reflects the strength of simplicity, the power of family, and the dignity built day by day. A living testament that, with love and respect, a fulfilling life can be forged from everyday experiences.
