Biobío's Forestry Exports Fall 6.6% in the Second Quarter of 2025
Forestry exports from the Biobío Region totaled US$656.7 million between April and June 2025, accounting for 59.8% of the region's total shipments. However, the figure showed a 6.6% decline compared to the same quarter of the previous year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Pulp remained the main exported product, reaching US$330.5 million, although with a year-on-year decrease of 17%, equivalent to US$67.5 million less. In contrast, other products showed increases, such as plywood (+27.7%) and sawn wood (+4%).
By destination, the United States led purchases with US$168.8 million, recording an 11.9% increase compared to the previous year. They were followed by China (US$155.4 million, -27.9%), South Korea (US$49.4 million, +20.8%), Mexico (US$32.2 million, -8.8%), and the Netherlands (US$30.5 million, -39%). Together, these five countries accounted for 66.4% of shipments.
In terms of economic activities, the manufacturing of pulp, paper, and cardboard was the only one that contributed to the overall decline in regional exports, with a 16.2% decrease during the period. In contrast, the "Forestry" category (wood and derivatives other than pulp) grew by 7.5%, reaching US$309.4 million.
The report also reflects the persistent volatility in international markets and the region's high dependence on the forestry sector, which remains key in its export structure.
