Forestry Contractors Summon Minister Boccardo and Demand Security After Murder in La Araucanía

The Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag) expressed its dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Labor following the murder of a watchman in the La Araucanía region, accusing the ministry of failing to respond adequately on security matters.
The group's manager, René Muñoz, stated that they are not satisfied with the management of Labor Minister Giorgio Boccardo regarding worker security, especially after filing a complaint with the International Labor Organization over this situation.
Additionally, the leader mentioned that they are still awaiting a statement from him regarding the murder in Victoria. "We believe there is still something missing. We hope our request is accepted and that we sit down at the table with the Ministry of Labor because I also want to ask the minister another question. What has the Ministry of Labor said regarding the worker’s death? Has there been any statement? Any clarification?" he stated.
Boccardo’s Response and Debate Over State of Exception in La Araucanía
For his part, the Labor Minister said they are available to file the appropriate claims with international organizations and emphasized that they are coordinating with the Ministries of Security and the Interior. "It is our responsibility to implement mediation mechanisms precisely to address this situation, particularly in the case of forestry workers, who are at risk while at their workplaces. We are obviously coordinating with the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of the Interior, which are responsible for addressing security and criminal aspects," he indicated.
Now, regarding security in the area, Socialist Party Senator Gastón Saavedra pointed out that the State of Exception should remain in places where arson attacks or outright terrorism have been recorded. However, he believes it should be de-escalated in areas that, despite being under the measure, have historically never experienced any significant incidents.
It is worth recalling that parliamentarians from various sectors and different trade groups have expressed the need to maintain the State of Exception in the Southern Macrozone due to acts of violence and arson attacks that have resulted in deaths and injuries.
