Government backs Army and assures they are patrolling route where worker was murdered
The Government backed the Army after assuring that they are patrolling the route where a security guard from a CMPC services company was murdered in La Araucanía.
Meanwhile, company executives stated that the Minister of Public Security, Luis Cordero, committed to reinforcing security in the area.
The Southern Macrozone, including La Araucanía, has been under a State of Exception for over 3 years, where this weekend the brutal murder of forestry security guard Manuel León Urra was recorded. He was shot while performing patrol duties for a CMPC estate.
An event that prompted a series of criticisms from trade unions demanding greater security, despite the measure allowing the deployment of the Army to safeguard, among other things, the region's routes.
A doubt cleared up by the head of Defense in La Araucanía, General Alejandro Moreno, affirming that uniformed personnel are patrolling the area's roads; and not only that, as he assured that Carabineros are also carrying out this task.
Additionally, he also said that criticisms regarding the absence of army personnel on the routes are "strange."
The Government, through the voice of the Presidential Delegate of La Araucanía, Eduardo Abdala, backed the Army and said that according to the information they receive, patrols are being conducted.
On the other hand, CMPC executives met with Minister Luis Cordero, stating that he committed to reinforcing security and police presence in the area.
This was stated by the company's general manager, Francisco Ruiz-Tagle, asserting that the authority said the investigation is of utmost priority for the Government.
The Army assured that, after the murder of the security guard occurred, units stationed in Victoria and Curacautín moved to the crime scene, affirming that route patrols are carried out day and night.
