Substantial Losses for Contractors Due to Attacks
René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors of Chile (Acoforag), stated that according to the organization's records, between 2014 and 2025, 511 attacks have occurred in this sector; 53% were concentrated between 2020 and 2022.
The losses—working capital due to attacks—are estimated at nearly $209.870 billion. Additionally, 1,824 pieces of forestry equipment were found destroyed. Nearly one-third are trucks.
"Without political will to confront this problem, we are lost—not only the forestry sector but also farmers, merchants, and truck drivers," Muñoz asserted. He stated that "when an entrepreneur is affected by an attack and there are no insurance policies in place, they lose their capital and their workers." He noted that insurance for this sector is expensive, and those offered by BancoEstado only cover total loss—for example, if more than 75% of the equipment is burned, he explained.
