An attack from behind and with high-caliber weapons—this was the assault suffered by two patrolmen on Saturday night inside a logging operation at Fundo Los Prados, in the Selva Oscura area of Victoria, in the La Araucanía region. One of the watchmen died, and the other remains hospitalized after receiving three ballistic impacts.

After the first images of the attack were released, Radio Bío Bío was able to corroborate how the events that ended the life of a forestry worker unfolded.

As could be confirmed, it was a group of at least four individuals with long weapons who approached the rear of a pickup truck, in which the two patrolmen Manuel León Urra and César Osorio were traveling.

Immediately, they began shooting while the pickup truck started moving to try to escape the armed group.

Worker Tried to Take Shelter in the Pickup Truck

Amid it all, César Osorio desperately tried to climb into the pickup bed to take cover, but the shots did not stop. The worker received at least three ballistic impacts in the back and then fell from the vehicle.

Finally, it is observed when the pickup truck veers to the side. That is the moment when the driver Manuel León Urra is shot in the head.

According to initial reports, there are two hypotheses being considered regarding the motivation for this crime: an attempted theft of the pickup truck or a planned and organized attack against the employees as a "show of force."

But the first option loses strength, considering that the individuals did not take the vehicle or any items from inside it, nor did they verify if there were survivors.

In fact, Osorio used his own radio to report that they had been attacked and to ask for help.

Following this new act of violence that shakes the La Araucanía region, the Minister of Security, Luis Cordero, participated in a coordination meeting with the Prosecutor's Office, both police forces, the Army, and the Gendarmerie to strengthen the investigative work aimed at finding those responsible.

The government authority visited the clinic where the surviving worker is hospitalized, who had to undergo surgery. He also held a private meeting with the children of Manuel León Urra.
