Efforts to Combat Timber Theft in Ñuble Intensify
With the goal of strengthening forest protection efforts and more effectively confronting forest-related crimes, the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf), through its Ñuble Regional Office, conducted a training session for the region's Carabineros Forest Patrols.
During the activity, led by the Conaf Ñuble Department of Evaluation and Enforcement team, topics related to forestry legislation, enforcement procedures, and the scope of Law No. 21,488 were addressed. This law reinforces legal tools to combat illegal timber extraction and trade.
The Regional Director of Conaf Ñuble, Juan Salvador Ramírez, emphasized that "this initiative aims to provide Carabineros with enhanced technical and regulatory tools to robustly address timber theft crimes and strengthen collaborative efforts with our institution in protecting Ñuble's forestry heritage."
Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Evaluation and Enforcement at Conaf Ñuble, Eduardo Mera, highlighted that "this training helps align criteria and improve coordination in each procedure, led by our inspectors and Carabineros personnel, focusing on pursuing violations of forestry legislation and crimes associated with timber theft."
This training session is part of an inter-institutional work plan promoted by Conaf Ñuble alongside various public and private stakeholders, aimed at reinforcing enforcement, preventing crimes related to the forestry sector, and ensuring the conservation of the region's forests.
