Another Suspect Arrested in Connection with Molino Grollmus Attack in Contulmo

The Investigative Police carried out another arrest related to the attack on Molino Grollmus, an incident recorded in August 2022 in Contulmo, in the Bío Bío Region.

According to Radio Bíobío, the individual is Gerson Alejandro Luengo Navarrete, nicknamed "Potito," who becomes the 19th arrest in the investigation of this terrorist attack that shocked the province of Arauco.

This brutal act of violence occurred on August 29, 2022, when armed, hooded individuals entered the facilities and reduced them to rubble. Additionally, three people were injured as a result of the shooting, one of whom even suffered a leg amputation.

This new accused individual is registered as residing in the Tranaquepe area, in the commune of Tirúa. It was precisely there that his capture was carried out by officials of the Investigative Police.

According to a Carabineros intelligence report accessed by Biobío, the subject has been involved in roadblocks, attacks on Carabineros, arson attacks, and drug trafficking. He has also participated in marches and visits to self-proclaimed Mapuche political prisoners.

The provincial delegate of Arauco, Humberto Toro, confirmed that this operation was carried out early Tuesday morning. "We were able to capture the person linked to this attack, the 19th one, and therefore, we continue to seek justice for this serious attack that occurred in the commune of Contulmo."

The government authority specified that the investigation determined that 21 people are involved in this incident.

The Statements That Implicate "Potito"

According to information obtained by this outlet, Gerson Luengo is mentioned in statements given by witnesses with identity protection before the prosecutor's office.

One of them is the individual identified with the code MG9. In his testimony before the prosecuting body, he stated that he had firsthand information about the attack, as an involved party who participated as a "conte," meaning as containment and who provided guard and coverage during the attack, had confided the details of the assault to him. Here, he mentioned by full name, for example, Federico Astete, the leader of the organization, and Luengo himself.

"The attack on the mill began to be prepared at least a year in advance by the 'RML' group, with the person who led the planning and the attack being Federico Astete," he testified. At least two other protected witnesses made statements in the same vein, identifying 'Potito' as part of the group that carried out the attack.
