Minister Delpiano: "I would not classify CAM as a terrorist organization"
Defense Minister Adriana Delpiano addressed the situation of violence in the Southern Macrozone on CNN Chile, acknowledging the existence of acts that qualify as terrorism in the area, although she avoided classifying the Arauco-Malleco Coordinator (CAM) as a terrorist organization.
"Not all violence is terrorism, but I do believe there has been terrorism in the Southern Macrozone, without a doubt, when the intention is to produce fear," stated the Secretary of State in conversation with Tolerancia Cero.
However, when asked about the role of CAM—one of the most visible Mapuche organizations in the conflict with the State—Delpiano was emphatic in not directly attributing that category to them.
"I would not classify CAM as a terrorist organization.They have a historical issue with the Chilean State, historical, it didn't start now, with this government or the previous one, there is a trajectory," she pointed out.
