Prevention Operation: Biobío Fortifies Against Fires During National Holidays
In an effort to mitigate the risk of wildfires during the National Holidays, the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) has implemented a prevention operation at the Plaza de los Tribunales in Concepción.
The activity, which included the participation of brigade members, technical personnel, and the display of specialized vehicles, aimed to educate the public on prevention measures and actions to take in case of emergencies.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Concepción and other entities of the National Disaster Prevention and Response System, including emergency agencies, public services, and private companies. All of them joined forces to reinforce the message of citizen responsibility and reduce the risks associated with the use of fire in rural areas, where activities such as barbecues and bonfires traditionally take place during the festivities.
Pablo Gajardo, acting regional director of Conaf, highlighted the importance of these initiatives, especially at a time when outdoor activities and the use of fire increase. Alejandro Sandoval, regional director of Senapred, called on the community to avoid risky behaviors and take all necessary precautions.
Margarita Celis, regional manager of Corma, emphasized the value of collaborative work in preventing wildfires and the importance of keeping properties clean and avoiding burns. Francisco Durán, Emergency Officer of the Municipality of Concepción, highlighted the locality's commitment to prevention, recalling the actions taken the previous year and the importance of community collaboration.
The operation also included the installation of stands with educational materials and practical demonstrations, such as fire evacuation drills for homes. The public was reminded of the importance of contacting emergency numbers (130 for Conaf, 132 for Firefighters, or 133 for Carabineros) if smoke is detected near vegetated areas.
