Biobío Leads National Production of Moldings and Window Frames

In 2022, the Biobío Region reaffirmed its position as a key player in Chile's manufactured wood products industry. According to data from the Forestry Institute (Infor), the area solidified its status as the country's main producer of moldings, accounting for 45.1% of the national total.

In absolute terms, Biobío produced 626,923 m³ of moldings in 2022, a figure that, although lower than in 2020 (830,420 m³), kept it at the top of the list, above regions such as Metropolitan and La Araucanía.

Also Leading in Window Frames

In addition to moldings, the region stood out in the production of window frames, contributing 38.2% of the national total in 2022, equivalent to 485 m³. Back in 2020, Biobío had already led this category with 35.4%.

Comparison with Other Regions

In door production, the Metropolitan Region leads with more than half of the national output (50.6% in 2022).

In windows, Los Ríos was the region with the highest share in 2022 (37.9%), displacing the Metropolitan Region, which had led in 2020.

In door frames, Maule reached first place in 2022 with 32.7%.

A Productive Engine for Chile

Biobío hosts a key industrial hub for processed wood in Chile, reflecting not only its productive capacity but also the importance of the forestry sector in generating employment and added value in the south-central part of the country.

Leadership in moldings and window frames confirms that the region remains a national benchmark in the transformation of forest products, despite the decline in production volumes compared to previous years.
