Conaf on alert due to increase in fires in Maule
The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) of the Maule Region has intensified its efforts in the prevention and combat of forest fires after recording eight emergencies in different communes during the current season. The institution's strategy includes constant patrols, surveillance on key routes, and joint operations with Carabineros to mitigate the risk of fire spread.
The prevention campaign also includes the distribution of informational material and the implementation of audiovisual campaigns aimed at educating the population about the importance of self-care and the timely reporting of any signs of fire. These initiatives are part of a coordinated effort with the Provincial Wildfire Committees, Firefighters, forestry companies, and the Community Prevention Network, which strengthens the response capacity to potential incidents.
Currently, Conaf maintains three active ground brigades in the towns of Talca, Cauquenes, and Hualañé, and the incorporation of more teams is planned for the months of October and November to expand coverage throughout the region. María Isabel Florido, regional director of Conaf, emphasized the relevance of citizen participation and urged the population to remain alert, especially during holidays: "If you see any smoke, call 130 so we can have a rapid reaction."
The assessment of the 2025-2026 season shows that the fires have affected various localities, with three events in Curepto, two in Río Claro, and one in Constitución, Retiro, and San Javier. The current situation underscores the need to maintain constant vigilance and to promote a culture of prevention and community action to protect the natural heritage and safety of the inhabitants of the Maule region.
