Seremi of Labor offers apologies after linking sawmill closures to decrease in wood theft

The Seremi of Labor of Bío Bío, Sandra Quintana, offered apologies to the forestry guild for statements linking sawmill closures to the decrease in wood theft crimes.

Recall that the government authority stated that the guild faces a structural problem that was exacerbated by the pandemic, but also, that it is due to the illegal sale of wood.

"Much of these people who were selling irregular wood no longer had the same production and sales decreased," she asserted.

In that vein, the authority commented that she deeply regrets "that it was considered in another way. I believe that those who have done their job well, in relation to being companies that work under good conditions, that have other problems."

"That is, in part, let's say, what happens today with many companies in the region, but in no case is there an intention to offend," she added.

After this, she detailed that she met with Michel Esquerré, national president of PymeMad, to whom she explained "precisely what this was about. I also offered these apologies which I believe are important."

"There was no intention, and when one has no intention of harming anyone or offending anyone. Evidently, if things were not considered in the way or with the intention that existed, they must be stated," she clarified.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the regional secretary of the portfolio personally called PymeMad, where they reiterated that their current problem is economic in nature.
