Mayor of Laja values presence of Armed Forces during wildfire season: "You can tell when they are here"
The mayor of Laja, Vladimir Fica, explained how the municipality is preparing for a new summer season and potential wildfires in the Biobío Region.
As stated in an interview with SABES, Laja carries out coordinated work with forestry companies and communities, especially rural ones, to confront the risk of fires.
"We coordinate with CMPC all year round; we are clear about the support points we can provide from the logistical standpoint of the Laja Municipality, always available to combat wildfires alongside Arauco or CMPC. As long as it is for the protection of our neighbors, the commune has always worked in coordination with them," affirmed Vladimir Fica.
In this regard, the communal chief emphasized the coordination meeting held a week ago, ahead of the wildfire season, where they sought to "strengthen the weak points we had last year and coordinate them especially with the community and rural sectors."
Presence of the Armed Forces
Additionally, the mayor of Laja valued the presence of the Armed Forces during the summer, considering that the Biobío Province is under a State of Constitutional Exception.
"In our province, you can tell when the Armed Forces are present, and I have nothing to say; at least in our commune, there is a presence of them (...) Last year there were fewer fires than the previous year, a statistic that hopefully continues, along with what private companies have done and also the municipality coordinating with communities," stated Fica.
Housing project near Laguna La Señoraza
The mayor of Laja also referred to a failed housing project that was to be installed near Laguna La Señoraza, which was finally approved by the Supreme Court and National Monuments. However, the subsidies would no longer be available.
"We deeply regret that our commune has been harmed by these 210 social integration subsidies. 30% of those families were going to have a free home; the other 70% were going to pay with a mortgage. A great view, next to a tremendous lagoon. After two years and so long, today a resolution arrives stating that it was feasible to build the apartments. Today it doesn't harm the mayor who brought the apartments at the time. It harms the 210 families," questioned the communal chief.
Regarding the housing subsidies, Fica assured that they "were lost because when you apply for a project system, and you don't accept it or don't execute it within a certain time, the list moves on and they go to another commune."
