CONAF Launches Call for Firefighter Selection in Biobío

The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) has begun the selection process to incorporate 500 forest firefighters and 30 people in logistical and dispatch roles, preparing for the 2025-2026 wildfire season in the Biobío Region. This call aligns with the entity's national plan, which anticipates more than 3,500 vacancies across the country.

The regional presidential delegate, Eduardo Pacheco, highlights the importance of firefighters in protecting communities and ecosystems, urging interested individuals with the necessary experience to apply. The application process is already open and will continue until all positions are filled, with candidates able to apply through the Conaf website (www.conaf.cl).

Esteban Krause, regional director of Conaf, details that the selection process will include background checks, physical and technical tests, interviews, and psychological and medical evaluations. The first hires are expected in September, starting with leadership and technical personnel, followed by the gradual incorporation of the rest of the contingent.

The regional ministerial secretary of Agriculture, Pamela Gatti, emphasizes the need to strengthen teams in the face of a challenging climate scenario, calling on the most prepared and committed individuals to apply. Among the requirements to apply are Chilean nationality or regularized immigration status, completed basic education, a valid identity card, health compatible with the functions, and a clean criminal record. For certain positions, prior experience and specific certifications are required.

This selection process is a crucial opportunity to strengthen the State's response capacity to forest emergencies and to contribute to the conservation of Chile's natural and human heritage.
